Great Eastern Consolidated Gold & Silver Mining Company

Location: Star District (Silver Star), Lyon County

Date: April 22, 1863
Picture
Star District:
This district is listed on the stock certificate, but I could find no reference to the Star District. The 1864 Collins Nevada Directory lists the Great Eastern as being in the Silver Star District. That makes sense. The Silver Star District was 1 1/4 miles east of Virginia City and Gold Hill and lies parallel to the Comstock Lode. It was later renamed the Brunswick District after the Brunswick Lode and then renamed again as part of the Comstock District.

Great Eastern Consolidated Gold & Silver Mining Company:
The certificate says it was incorporated on April 3, 1863. I found another source that both the Great Eastern Consolidated and the Great Eastern were incorporated on April 27, 1863.That would be after this certificate was issued?

Listed in the 1864 Collins directory, location Silver Star District, with A.C. Knox as secretary and office at Taylor's Building in Virginia City.

Yates (the secretary on this certificate) is listed as the secretary for the Harrison Mining Company. It makes sense that he could have been the secretary of this company also at this time.

President A. Clock was listed in the 1862 and 1863 Kelly Directories as being in the milk business. The Virginia Evening Bulletin lists him as being delinquent in paying his assessment on the Gray Eagle Mining Company on January 27, 1864.

A pencil inscription on the back of the certificate says "Near the Utah." There were two Utah Mines on the Comstock: one on the north end of Virginia City and one in American Flat. The note is likely referring to the latter.
