These stock certificates in this web site are all territorial. Some were created by hard working men who hoped that the additional revenue coming from these stock certificates would allow them to develop their mine and, yes, become rich. Some were just floated for the monetary gain. Some were for mines that existed on paper only - the brainchild of frauds and cheats.
Most were sold only in the area where the home office was. In the early 1860's it was just not possible or usual to do long distance business. Many were incorporated in Nevada and Nevada was where the home office was. So, it the people on the stock certificates lead to interesting Nevada hsitory! |
